Cal. 54. S# 31560. The first Starr cartridge carbines were made near the end of the Civil War and only a few thousand were issued. For some reason these are quite scarce as most must have been sold as surplus and ended up elsewhere in the world. Standard configuration of lever operated falling breech. Steel mounted, 21" bbl marked on top "STARR ARMS CO YONKERS NY". Same markings are found on the lock and back of breech marked "STARRS PATENT / SEPT. 14TH 1858". CONDITION: very good. Traces of finish, overall dark mostly smooth patina, good markings, stock refinished, no discernible inspection marks. Mechanics are fine, hammer is missing screw. Good mostly bright rifled bore. (01-30297/JS). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
